Make a list of the things you can take as “gospel” in this world. All the things you needn’t question, that are unequivocally true.
I’ll take a guess and say the only things that came to mind were what we find rooted in Scripture.
The news? No…(😅) Medical advice? Well…advice and information seems to change all the time, huh? (Not to mention bias, be it worldview-related or political). Justice? what a shifting concept…
Do you know both Scripture and Christ are referred to in the Bible as “logos”?
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1; “logos”).
“The evangelist…plainly tells us why he calls Christ the Word—because he is the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, and has declared him. Word is two-fold: logos endiathetos—word conceived; and logos prophorikos—word uttered.” (Matthew Henry on John 1:1).
“As the Christ reveals God, so this Book reveals Christ, and therefore it partakes, as the Word of God, in all the attributes of the Incarnate Word; and we may say many of the same things of the written Word as of the embodied Word; in fact, they are now so linked together that it would be impossible to divide them.
…Christ and his Word must go together. What is true of the Christ is here predicated both of him and of his Word” (Spurgeon on Heb. 4:12).
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8
“God’s Word has been true from the first moment in which it was spoken, true throughout the whole of history, true to use from the instant in which we believed it; ay, true to us before we were true to it.” (Spurgeon on Ps 119:160)
When all else shifts and falters, the Word is eternally trustworthy. Look to Christ, look to the Word.
