Clover & Comfort

“Christ be with me,

Christ within me,

Christ behind me,

Christ before me,

Christ beside me,

Christ to win me,

Christ to comfort and restore me.

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ in quiet,

Christ in danger,

Christ in hearts of all that love me,

Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.”

Some of you may be familiar with Patrick of Ireland and his very well-known Breastplate Prayer. If you are not familiar…you can read it here.

Some of you may also be aware (and even sing!) the hymn that was written by Cecil Frances Humphries based on his prayer. You can read about it and her here. And listen to a beautiful version sung here.

A favorite verse of mine that comes to mind reading this excerpt from Patrick’s prayer is Hebrews 13:8; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Those who trust in Him are safe and continually shepherded, cared for and loved.
